Mills Walker Broomfield, longtime Ponca City resident passed away Tuesday evening, September 12, 2017 in Ponca City, Oklahoma. He was born May 1, 1924 in West Monroe, Louisiana to Walker M. and Martha (Cheatham) Broomfield.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, September 18, 2017 in the Grace Memorial Chapel with interment to follow in the Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery mausoleum. Visitation will be Sunday, September 17, 2017 from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Grace Memorial Chapel of Ponca City. Family will be at the Chapel from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Mills grew in up West Monroe, Louisiana. He met the love of his life Eloise Jones in Paoli, Indiana, while working on the pipeline there. They married on July 6, 1944 in Paoli, Indiana. Mills worked on various construction jobs through the Midwest before moving to Ponca City in January 1960 to work as an electrician at Continental Carbon Co. He retired in May 1983 after 23 years of service. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Works (IBEW) for 70 years. He was also a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church since 1960. During his early years, Mills enjoyed fishing, photography (including developing his own pictures), and painting. During his later years, his main enjoyment was watching football on television.
Survivors include his daughter, Karen E. and husband Richard L. Hugo of Davenport, Florida; Granddaughter, Renee K. Lyons and husband Andrew P. Lyons of Charleston, South Carolina; Great grandchildren Elijah, Noah and Eloise Lyons of Charleston; Great granddaughters, Kelsey Kyler-Hugo of Stillwater, Oklahoma, and Lauren Hugo of Moore and their mother Rachelle Kyler of Moore, Oklahoma and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Eloise of 58 years, one brother, Vurnon Broomfield and one sister, Effie Hendricks, and one grandson, Grant Hugo.
