Tommy Ray Brookshire went to be with our Lord Jesus Christ on Saturday, April 8, 2017. He was born in Ponca City, Oklahoma, to T.W. and Emma Brookshire on March 9, 1945.
After graduating from Ponca City High School in 1963, he joined the Air Force, where he became a world traveler. He was honorably discharged in 1971. He then went to work for a construction company in Dallas, where he helped build skyscrapers. While in Texas, he became a master scuba diver and instructor. Years later, he moved back to Ponca City and helped reconstruct Wentz Pool, the Marland Mansion, the Cultural Center, and the tennis courts on 7th street. He also worked at Mid America Door, which he later retired from.
He loved family camping trips, boating, skiing, traveling, fishing, hotrods, classic cars, and cruising. He was a big fan of the Dallas Cowboys and their cheerleaders, as well as the OU Sooners! He enjoyed hanging out in the backyard with friends and family around the fire. Chocolate cake and hog cream (ice cream) was not just for birthdays, and he had to have jalapenos and hot sauce on just about everything. He would always say, "the hotter the better." Tommy was a fun-loving, fantastic man and will be greatly missed until we see him again!
Tommy is survived by his brother, Kenneth Brookshire, lots of nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and even great-great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas W. Brookshire Jr., mother, Nancy Emma (Turpen) Brookshire, brothers, Roy and Phillip Brookshire, and sister, Glenda Roseberry.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday, April 12, at 10 a.m. at Resthaven Memorial Park. Casket Bearers will be Dawayne Givens, Carlo Wayne Bales, Willy Brookshire, Troy Brookshire, Brian James, Wesley Anderson, Seth Givens, Coty Getman, and Frankie McDaniel. Services are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home and Crematory.
