Iris Lee Brewer longtime resident of Ponca City passed away Saturday, April 16, 2011, at Shawn Manor Nursing Home. She was 87 years of age.
Iris was born July 8, 1923, in Guymon, Oklahoma, the daughter of Lee Sloan Hill and Verdie Robinson Hill. She was a 1941 graduate of Eldorado High School and attended Cameron Junior College in Lawton. She went to work at Fort Sill transcribing messages during World War II. She married Wayne Lloyd Lane on November 1,1945 in Quanah, Texas. The couple eventually made their home in Alva, Oklahoma, where she worked as the principals secretary at Washington Elementary School. Her marriage to Wayne ended in 1972 and Iris moved to Yukon, Oklahoma, where she went to work at the Oklahoma Public Employees Agency. It was in Yukon where she met Charles Brewer in the singles department at church and they married on February 11, 1975. Iris moved to Ponca City in 1989.
Iris was a member of First Baptist Church of Ponca City, attended the Naomi Sunday School Class and was active in the Silvertone Choir. In earlier years she was a member of the Garden Club. Her enjoyments were crafts, sewing, classical music, singing in the choir, bird watching and reading. Iris had a great sense of humor and always enjoyed teasing and laughing with others.
She is survived by her daughter and soninlaw Stacie Kenny Jones of Delmont, Pennsylvania her son and daughterinlaw Mike Jill Lane of Ponca City, Oklahoma and four grandchildren, Kenneth M.M. Jones, Michael Wayne Jones, Sarah Lane and Micah Lane several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents her husband, Charles Brewer two sisters, Ozella Tarver and Eloise Wesson two brothers, Cletus Hill and Truett Hill.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 21, 2011 at 2 p.m. in the First Baptist Church Chapel with Jack Shamburger presiding. Interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel.
