Neffney Carisa Bales, a true champion of kind heartedness, passed away Friday, December 28, 2007, at the Integris Bass Baptist Health Center in Enid, OK. She was 30 years young. The service for Neffney will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 2, 2008 at the First Baptist Church with Rev. David Bigger, pastor of Free Will Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will then follow at Resthaven Memorial Park in Ponca City, OK. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory.
She was born on August 15, 1977 to Steve Alan Bales and Jo Ann Smith Bales in Ponca City, OK. Everyone knew her affectionately as Neffi, and her family and friends were honored to call her: daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, aunt, cousin and friend. She was a special and gifted person from the day she was born, for the Doctors didn’t give much hope for a child with her disabilities to survive. Neffi proved all of them wrong when she not only survived, but thrived. She was such a strong little fighter that she overcame the obstacles of her Downs Syndrome to live a happy fulfilled life.
Neffi loved the simple things in life and among her favorite activities included watching TV - especially the Disney Movies, talking, listening to music, talking, drawing and did we mention that she loved to talk which she could do for hours on end. She also loved the holidays with all the colorful decorations, food, presents and visiting all of her family and friends so that she could - talk some more. She was truly a rare breed and one in a million. Neffi was one of the few people that could bring out a smile on the darkest days, and the person that would be first to give out hugs and affection. Some people wait a lifetime to say “I Love You”, but not Neffi – who had a rare gift of making everyone feel loved and she wasted no time and said these words very often to the people she cared about. She had a wonderful laugh and when she got started laughing sometimes she would laugh for hours. She was very blessed and we were blessed to be allowed to have this special angel on earth for the short time that we did. Neffi will truly be missed, but every time we hear someone say “I Love You” or we hear a special laugh, we will think of Neffi and remember the love and hugs that she gave so freely to all the people she cared about. She was a very special person and a true friend to everyone because she never met a stranger.
