Joyce Cleste Akers, resident of Kaw City, passed away Tuesday, January 3, 2012, at Alterra Sterling House of Ponca City. She was 85.

The graveside service will be held at 11 am, Saturday, January 7, 2012 at the Memorial Park Cemetery, Bartlesville, Oklahoma with Pastor David Bigger, First Freewill Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory.

Joyce was born on May 16, 1926 to the late Ed Bryant and the late Dora Bryant in Flint, MI. She was married to Jack David Akers on July 14, 1946 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. She was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband of the home, two daughters Kathy Edwards and her husband Paul of Ponca City and Teresa Walker and her husband Dennis of Spirit Lake, Idaho, one son Jimmie Akers of Kaw City one brother Hugh Heady of Twenty Nine Palms, CA, grandchildren; Michael Brunette and his wife Erika, Patricia Vickroy and her husband Danny, Jimmie Akers and his wife Tamasan, Jack Akers and his wife Lori, Mike Edwards, Lisa Edwards all of Ponca City and 15 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters and one brother.

Casketbearers will be Jimmie Akers Jr., Jack David Akers (grandson), Michael Brunette, Danny Vickroy, Daniel Brunette and Coty Payton.

Jack David Akers, age 92, long time resident of Kaw City, Oklahoma, passed away Saturday, September 2, 2017 in Blackwell, OK.

Friends and loved ones may pay their respects at the funeral home from 11am-8pm with the family to greet friends from 5-7pm, Wednesday, September 6, 2017. A graveside ceremony with Full U.S. Army Honors will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, September 7, 2017 at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Bartlesville, OK with Pastors Adam Phillips, David Bigger and John Clapp officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory.

Jack was born on September 19, 1924, the third of six children to Joe M. Akers and Wilma Katherine Marlin Akers in Sand Springs, OK. He was raised in the Bartlesville area. On July 14, 1946, Joyce Cleste Bryant became his beloved wife in Bartlesville. They celebrated 65 years of marriage before her passing in 2012. Jack was a patriotic American. He joined the U.S. military during WWII, serving in the European Theater, specifically, the liberation of Italy where he received a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart for his actions. Jack stayed in the Army after the war serving a total of 25 years before joining the civil service where he continued to serve our country until he retired. Ponca City Freewill Baptist Church became his church home after moving to the Kaw City area. Jack Supported the church and its missions quietly, but with devotion. In his latter years, Jack enjoyed spending free time with his son, golfing and fishing all of the U.S.

Survivors include his son Jim Akers of Kaw City, daughters: Kathy Edwards of Ponca City, and Teresa Walker and husband Dennis of Spirit Lake, ID. grandchildren: Michael Akers of Oklahoma City, Jack Akers and wife Lori of DuPont, WA, Jimmie Akers and wife Tamasan of Derby, KS Mike Brunette and wife Erica of Ponca City, Pat Vickroy and husband Danny of Ponca City as well as Dustin Walker of Spirit Lake, ID, sister in law Joanne Akers of Bartlesville, 21 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, wife Joyce, and siblings: June Waller, Joe Akers, Jimmie Akers, Gene Akers, and John Akers
