Frank L. Rogers
February 21, 1947 - December 19, 2025
Frank Rogers, a lifelong citizen of Ponca City, passed away on December 19, 2025 at the age of 78 (having, in his words, "never expected to live this long"). He was born to Hobart and Neita Rogers in Ponca City on February 21st, 1947, and quickly made a splash by winning the "Most Beautiful Baby of Ponca City" award. He graduated from Ponca City High School in 1965 where he was a member of the basketball and baseball teams. He then majored in business at Northern Oklahoma College in Tonkawa and Oklahoma State University in Stillwater. Starting at Conoco in 1969, Frank worked a variety of jobs there before retiring in 2003 with 34-1/2 years of service.
Frank married his wife Sonya on June 23rd, 1984. They had many great years together, taking trips around the US, hosting pool parties and cookouts, and adopting pets Somer Dog, Blackie, and Katy. Widely known for his sense of humor, Frank frequently played pranks on Sonya, made Mr. Roger's spoofs for neighborhood kids, and gave gag gifts for Christmas.
A sports enthusiast, his favorite sporting memories were winning the 1975 state softball championship with the Taco Grande team, making a hole-in-one on Hole #16 at the Ponca City Country Club (PCCC), and creating and directing the first 19 annual Summer Sizzler golf tournaments at the PCCC, a tournament which celebrated its 33rd year this July. He supported OSU sports (especially the golf and women's basketball teams), Po-Hi Lady Cat golf, coached a Woodland's girls basketball team (teaching them to play better than anyone expected 11-year-olds to play), and created a college bowl fundraiser for Marland's Home.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Barty; his in-laws, Phil and Esther Galvan; sister-in-law, Sandy McEnany, and brothers-in-law Steve McEnany and Tim Sayles. He is survived by his wife Sonya; his step-daughter, Michelle Barnett (Anthony Hackner); his younger brother, Randy; his sister-in-law, Sylvia Sayles; and his brothers-in-law, Phillip Galvan (Jackie), Rick Galvan (Colleen) and Mike Galvan. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
There will be a graveside service for family and friends at 11:00 am, Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at Resthaven Cemetery in Ponca City. A Celebration of Life will take place immediately following at the Ponca City Country Club.
In gratitude for the care Frank received, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of North Central Oklahoma, 445 Fairview Ave #103, Ponca City, OK 74601, in lieu of flowers.
We hope Frank is teeing off in heaven - hit 'em long and straight Frankie.
