Resthaven Cemetery

John Franklin Davis
April 22, 1953 - March 12, 2022

John F. Davis was born on April 22, 1953, and he passed away on March 12, 2022. No viewing is scheduled. Funeral Services will be at 1:00 pm Wednesday, March 16, 2022 at First Baptist Church of Ponca City, with burial following at Resthaven Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory, 505 W Grand Ave, Ponca City, OK 74601. Those unable to attend the Funeral Ceremony, may attend virtually on the Trout Funeral Home website, www.troutfuneralhome.com and click on the live-stream or toolbar icon on the top right corner after 12:45 PM. John was a man who lived a full and happy life. He placed an immense value in his faith in God and served in many different capacities at First Baptist Church, Ponca City. He taught 5th graders in Sunday School for over 20 years, served as a church deacon for more than 3 decades, went to summer camps, attended Promise Keeper events, visited widows, sang in the church choir, delivered Meals on Wheels, and served at Friendship Feast. His desire to show God's love through service was a manifestation of his unwavering faith. John also loved to study and discuss God's word with his men's group and with his Sunday School class.

John loved his family and did so much to provide for them through his time at ConocoPhillips and OneOK. His passion was adventuring, and he took his wife Barbara and their two kids on numerous weekend and summer trips. He loved to camp and roast hot dogs. In retirement, John and Barbara drove their RV all over the country. His favorite destination was the mountains, spending time in Durango, Ouray and Estes Park. A highlight trip was a two-month expedition journeying through Canada and Alaska. Wherever they traveled, they enjoyed finding fun places to kayak and ride their bikes. He also made it a point to attend the Atherton family reunion every summer.

"I am going for a drive," John often said. He enjoyed a long drive to see the bison in Pawnee, the beauty of rural Oklahoma, cruising around Lake Ponca, and checking on the happenings around town. John loved Christmas time, watching Christmas movies, viewing the lights at the lake, and celebrating the birth of Jesus with his church and his family. John's other hobbies include listening to music, regular meetings with his bridge club, and loving his dog, Chloe.

To say that he absolutely loved his wife Barbara was an understatement. He was devoted to her and showed it in a multitude of ways. He was tremendously proud of his children and grandchildren, and he loved them well. His friends say that he was fun to be around, and he had the kind of infectious smile that lit up a room.

He will be missed by his wife of 44 years, Barbara Davis, daughter Jenny Flowers and her husband Drew and their four kids, Cale, Breleigh, Addy and Emmy, son Jordan Davis and his wife Rachel, sister Joan Dewitt, sister Debbie Meyers and her husband Tom. He is preceded in death by his parents John and Marguerite Davis of Blackwell, OK.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church Missions or Children's Department, 218 S 6th St, Ponca City, OK 74601.
