George Brown, Ponca City resident, passed away Wednesday, April 4, 2007 at the Stillwater Medical Center in Stillwater, OK. He was 81.
The funeral service will be at 10 AM on Monday, April 9, 2007 at the Albright United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Shelia Combs-Frances, pastor of Albright United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at the Resthaven Memorial Park. Arrangements are made under the direction of Trout Funeral Home and Crematory.
George was born on August 5, 1925 to Joseph S. Brown and Ammie D. (Mackey) Brown in Ponca City, OK. He attended and graduated from Ponca City. He married Opal (Musgrave) Brown on November 14, 1943 at the First Evangelical Church in Ponca City, OK. George went to work for Conoco, where he worked for 40 years as a Research Technician. Before retiring Conoco he went to Auctioneering School and Real Estate School. He then assisted Starling Miller Real Estate and Auction in Perry, OK, then operated Brown Real Estate and Auction in Ponca City.
In early years he coached the church basketball team. He was an avid sports fan, having been a referee of high school football and basketball in Northern Oklahoma. In school he participated in sports and played on the church softball team. He also played on the Conoco basketball team. He was a member of the American Legion for several years. He was a member of the Albright United Methodist Church where he was very involved in his Earnest Seekers Sunday School Class and served as class president. He especially loved spending time with his family enjoying the celebrations, holidays, and special events involving the grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife Opal of the home; four daughters: Mrs. Robert (Judy) Ritthaler of Perry, OK, Mrs. Bob (Pat) Martin of Ponca City, OK, Katherine Goss of Ponca City, OK, and Mrs. Billy Ray (Linda) Stevens of Perry, OK; one sister Mary Baehr of Rancho Mirage, CA; 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Ammie Brown; brothers Lewis Brown, John W. Brown and Delmar Brown; sisters: Mildred Chambers, Betty Brown, and Margie Brown.
