Cleo H. Anderson died of natural causes in Edmond, Oklahoma on January 12, 2022, just 5 days prior to his 97th birthday.
Cleo is survived by his wife, Leona Anderson, of Edmond, OK, formerly of Ponca City, OK; his daughter Shirley Dowty and husband Ed of Woodward, OK; his daughter Barbara Henderson of Edmond, OK; his son Jimmy Anderson and wife Connie of Owasso, OK; and his daughter Leisa Payne and husband Darrel of Ponca City, OK; as well as 12 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandson; and many, many friends.
He is preceded in death by his mom and dad, Roscoe Earl Anderson and Alma Ellen Mayfield, of Ponca City, OK; his brothers Gene, Frank, and Rusty as well as 2 sisters, Lillian and Maxine; and his son-in-law David Henderson.
Cleo was born on January 17th, 1925 in Yale, Oklahoma to parents Roscoe and Alma Anderson. He was in the United States Army in World War II. While in the Army, he served as a medic with the 316th medic battalion which was assigned to the 88th Infantry in Italy. He then worked on the Santa Fe Railroad before moving on to work as a pipe fitter in the Conoco Refinery in Ponca City, OK, where he worked for more than 37 years.
Cleo married Leona Collins in 1945 in Winfield, Kansas. He was a great man and a loving father. The couple had four children together; Shirley, Barbara, Jimmy, and Leisa.
Cleo was a Christian man who was deeply involved in the study of God's word and spending time with his family. He enjoyed woodworking, carving, camping, telling jokes, playing his guitar, and singing songs with his children and grandchildren. His family and friends will always remember him as a fun-loving person.
A funeral is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on January 18th, 2022, at Second Baptist Church in Ponca City, Oklahoma with an interment to follow at Rest Haven Memorial Park. Ken Newport and Ed Dowty will officiate. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Cleo's life.
