October 1, 1947 - November 15, 2023

Jimmie D. Akers, Sr. died Wednesday, November 15, 2023 in Oklahoma City. He was 76 years old.

He was born October 1, 1947, in Bartlesville, OK to Jack David and Joyce Celeste (Bryant) Akers. He joined the Army on March 24, 1966 and served in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged March 5, 1969. In 1972, he married Marie Dugan, and to this union had 3 children, Mike, Jack, and Jimmie Jr.

On June 16th, 2020, he married Sarah.

During his free time Jimmie enjoyed golfing, traveling, fishing, and camping. He loved all things patriotic, being an advocate for veterans and their families. He also loved helping people and volunteering at the church.

Jimmie is preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Joycie Akers.

He is survived by his wife Sarah; sisters Kathy Edwards, and Teresa Walker, wife of Dennis Walker; sons Mike Akers, Jack Akers and wife Lori, and Jimmie Jr. and wife Tamasan; Sarah's children Winter McGee and husband Tanner, Mike Hernandez, and Jesse Hernandez; grandchildren Ashley Rancier and husband Aaron, Alyssa Dickinson and husband Johnny, Dakota Bailey, Cameron Akers, Kirsten Akers, Madison Long, Sydney Long, Britney (Brandon) Wolfrum, Emily (Payden) Day, Collin Akers, and Keagan Akers; Sarah's grandchildren Jaxon and Benjamin McGee; and great grandchildren Aleeya Bailey, Rhett Bailey, Kailor Dickinson, Michaela Dickinson, Cayde Wolfrum, Maylee Day, Kasen Day, and Arlo Day.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 1, 2023 at 10:00 AM, at Freewill Baptist Church, 1900 E. Hubbard Rd, Ponca City, OK 74604. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park, Ponca City, OK. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory, 505 W. Grand Ave, Ponca City, OK 74601.
