Vernie F. Loftis was born July 30, 1925 in Lawton, OK to Noah and Alice Sullivan Loftis. He passed away October 3, 2018. When he was six years old he moved to Ozark County Missouri where he attended school at Romance, MO. In 1942 he went to Kansas where he lived and worked at various jobs. On June 4, 1966 he married Alda Wintermute Collins and they resided in Garden City, KS until he took early retirement from the Butler Manufacturing Company in December of 1982. They then moved to their present home in Tonkawa. Vernie enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening, and reading.
He is survived by nieces; Kay Wintermute, Carol Nichols, Louise Lynn and husband Steve, and Marie Wintermute, a nephew, and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife, sister, Gladys Marquis and his parents.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 1:00 pm at The Trout Funeral Home Chapel in Tonkawa on Tuesday, October 9, 2018 with burial to follow (weather permitting) at the Prairie View Cemetery south of Tonkawa.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice or to the perpetual care fund for the Prairie View Cemetery in care of Trout Funeral Home.
Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Tonkawa.
