Frances Elizabeth Williams passed away late Friday evening due to complications of pneumonia at the age of 93. She was at home with her daughter and son-in-law.
Frances was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Isaiah (Isaac) Williams, her daughter, Amelia Johnson, her three brothers, Presley, David and Jimmy Wilson, two grandchildren, Charlene and Michael, and two great-grandchildren, Tia and Marion Wade. She is survived by her son, Gilmore Williams, her daughter, Josephine Williams, her seven grandchildren—Steven, Jeff, Karla, Cynthia, Kimberly, Chantel, and Wendy—along with many more great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Frances was born in Blackwell, Okla., but spent most of her life in Enid, Okla., where she and Isaac raised three children. She enjoyed a lengthy career, working for Woolworth’s for 12 years and Evans Drug for nearly 30 years as a cashier before retiring.
Frances was Love personified. She loved the Lord, diligently studying His word and regularly attending church at Trinity Baptist in Enid. She was a prayer warrior, always lifting up her family and friends. She loved her husband, overcoming the challenges of a mixed-race marriage during an era when doing so made her a pioneer. She loved her children, and she was proud to be a working mother after they started school. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, making sure to send birthday cards to each of us every year.
Frances loved to laugh, and kept her sense of humor to the very end. She loved working in the garden, planting flowers every year well into retirement. She loved to sing, and she was an expert at soothing fussy babies. She always focused on the positive aspects of life, rarely spending time discussing anything negative.
Frances was a mentor to so many of us who knew and loved her. She showed by example what it is to carry oneself with dignity and grace and humility. She was the quiet and unassuming matriarch of our family, the bedrock for so many of us who loved her, and she will be greatly missed every day until we see her again.
Services will be held at Ponca Indian Baptist Church in White Eagle, Okla. The wake will be held Saturday evening after dinner at 5p.m. Funeral services will take place on Sunday, January 27th, 2019 at 2:00pm following a traditional feast at Noon. She will be laid to rest at the Ponca Tribal Cemetery next to her husband and daughter.
