Alma Rae Warrior, longtime resident of the Red Rock area, passed Monday, June 8, 2015 at the home of her daughter in Arkansas City, Kansas. She was 82 years of age.
Alma was born February 24, 1933 in the Black Bear Community near Red Rock. Her parents were Frank Pettit and Stella Lucille Burgess Whitecloud. Her earlier education was in the Pawnee Indian Boarding School. She was married to Otis C. Warrior on September 13, 1957.
She was affiliated with the Otoe Indian Baptist Church of Red Rock. Her enjoyments were fishing, and camping out at the Otoe pow-wow park with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed stitching plastic canvas, crocheting and making seasonal crafts for the Senior citizens and working with Senior citizens. She also enjoyed her toast and coffee at the Rock. Alma was one of the three founders of the Burgess family reunion in 1976 that continues to this day.
Alma is survived by her seven children, Leda Green of Red Rock, Otis Wayne Warrior Sr. and wife Joanna, of Red Rock, Carla Sanders and companion G.E. Cornell, of Tonkawa, Preston Warrior of Red Rock, Susan Fisher and husband John, of Arkansas City, Kansas, Janssen Todd Warrior and companion Theresa "Tee", of Red Rock and Kristy L. Warrior and companion Bruce Johnson, of White Eagle; one brother Freeman Dean Marlow of Oklahoma City and one sister, Mary Louise Whitecloud; she also leaves behind 24 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren; and many other extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three sons, Thomas Henry Spottedcrow, Lelus Roy Spottedcrow Sr. and Troy Lynn Warrior; granddaughter Patricia Lynn Spottedcrow and great grandson Jannsen Todd Warrior II.
Prayer services will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, June 9 and 10 at the Otoe-Missouria Cultural Center. A noon meal will be shared on Thursday, June 11, 2015 also at the Cultural Center. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m.; Pastor Louis Headman of the Ponca Indian Nazarene Church will preside over the service. Burial will follow in the Ponca Indian Tribal Cemetery under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel.
