Odell Sherwin Overland, 66, of Ponca City, passed away Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at the VA Medical Center in OKC.
Odell was born on October 14, 1945 in Pawnee, OK to William and Helen Waters Overland. Odell was a great man he loved to have fun, play and joke. He enjoyed going to the casino. He was a great father, brother and friend. He was a loving grandfather. Odell would have given the shirt off his back to help someone in need. Odell went to Chilocco Indian School until the 11th grade when he joined the US Army serving during the Vietnam Era. After an honorable discharge in 1964, he went on to work at Nickles Machine for several years. He also worked at Art and Ed service station and from that point on he was a Chevy man. Odell had also worked at ASC and Defenders at CONOCO. He had also been a janitor at Blue Star Casino before he retired. He was married to Debra Buffalohead for 23 years. He always talked about seeing his grandson, going to school and the Army.
Odell was preceded in death by his parents and sister and brothers Anna Mae, Tom and Teddy.
Survived by 1 sonMatthew Sherwin Overland of Ponca City, Sisters and Brothers Susie Overland of Ponca City, Sally Gayton of Cleveland, OH, Thomasine Martin of Tonkawa, OK, Andrew Overland of OKC, OK, John Overland of Ponca City and Louis Don Overland of Grand Prairie, TX.
Wake services will be Friday Saturday, October 5 6, 2012 at 7 pm at the Ponca Indian United Methodist Church. Traditional feast will be Noon on Sunday, October 7, 2012 with Funeral services to follow at 2 p.m. at the Ponca Indian United Methodist Church with Jim White officiating. Casket Bearers will be Daniel Overland, T.J. Martin, Judson Overland, Albert Cole, Frank Overland and R.J. Davila. Honorary Casket Bearers will be Louis Payne, SR., E.J. Callshim, Tanner Green and Ben Waters, JR.
Burial will follow at the Ponca Tribal Cemetery of White Eagle, OK.
