Roxanna “Roxie” Roughface Cornell, Lifetime of resident of Ponca City, passed away, Wednesday September 30, 2020 she was 62 years of age.

Roxie was born February 10, 1958 in Pawnee, Oklahoma. She is the daughter of Vivian Blueback Pemberton and Bronson Roughface Sr. She graduated from Fort Sill Indian School in 1977 and married Simon Cornell on March 10, 1997. She enjoyed playing pool with her husband and sons. She favorite things in life were spending time with family, going to family events, pow-wows, playing bingo, and collecting ceramic statues. She loved giving her grandkids suckers and candy.

She is survived by her husband Simon Cornell, her sons and daughter in law, Leon Hernandez and wife Emily, Jeff Hernandez, Carl “C.J.” Cornell. Her siblings Bronson “B.J.” Roughface Jr., and Bethany Roughface, and long-time friend Christi Simpson. Also mourning her passing are her grandchildren Chrisitanna Hernandez and husband Robert Dowell, Leon Hernandez, Annabella Hernandez, Thomas Hernandez Jeffery Hernandez, Josephine Hernandez, Monica Hernandez, Vinola Hernandez, Malachi Hernandez, Yalena Hernandez, Michael Hernandez, and Florence Hernandez, as well as her great grandchildren Ranah Dowell, Jeremiah Dowell and Sapphire Dowell and many, many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her son Jack Marvin Hernandez Jr., sisters Rebecca DeHart, Nelcine Warrior, and Gladys Burris, brothers Nelson Roughface, Jarvis Leroy, and Theodore Overland.

A noon meal will be served October 2, 2020 at the Ponca Tribal Cultural Center in White Eagle. Funeral Service will be held at 2 pm, with interment to follow at Ponca Indian Cemetery. Pall Bearers are Leon Hernandez, Jeff Hernandez Jr., Jeff Hernandez Sr., Carl Cornell, Arthur Blueback, and Hank Cornell. Honorary Pall Bearers include Boni Rojas, Leon Hernandez Sr., Robert Doewll, Jose Beazar Sr., Thomas Hernandez, Curtis Primeaux, Lance West, Michael Cornell, Frank Overland, Steve Bear. September 1, 1947 ~ March 17, 2021

Simon Moses "Mosey" Cornell, lifetime resident of Ponca City, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday March 17, 2021. He was 74 years old.

Simon was born September 1, 1947 in Pawnee, Oklahoma. He was the son of Vivian Horse Chief Eagle Cornell and George Cornell. Mosey graduated from Ponca City Highschool and later married Roxanna Roughface Cornell March 10, 1997. After college he joined the Army and was honorably discharged following 11 years of service. When he came home to his family, he immersed himself into living life to the fullest. He loved spending time with his family, raising his sons, and helping with his grandchildren brought him joy. He really enjoyed playing pool with his wife and sons, and also loved playing bingo darts, and chess, and collecting ceramic horses.

Simon is survived by his sons and daughter in law, Carl (C. J.) Cornell, Jeff Hernandez, Leon and Emily Hernandez, his brother Michael Cornell and longtime friend Preston Walkingsky. Also mourning his passing are grandchildren Christianna Hernandez and husband Robert Dowell, Leon Hernandez, Annabella Hernandez, Thomas Hernandez, Jeffery Hernandez, Josephine Hernandez, Monica Hernandez, Vinola Hernandez, Malachi Hernandez, Michael Hernandez, and Florence Hernandez, as well as his great grandchildren Ranah Dowell, Jeremiah Dowell, and Sapphire Dowell. He will also be missed by many-many nieces, nephews and friends.

Services will be held Friday, March 19, 2021 at the Tonkawa Tribal Gym with internment to follow at the Ponca Tribal Cemetery. Online condolences may be left at www.gracememorialchapel.net
