Zhangah-gthi Glen ‘Edwin' Little Cook, Ponca City resident, passed away on Tuesday, July 9, 2013. He was 74.

Edwin was born the son of Amos & Jerdie Alice Waters Little Cook on February 13, 1939, in Pawnee, Oklahoma. Edwin was an enrolled member of the Ponca Tribe of Indians of Oklahoma and was a fluent speaker of his native language and was active in preserving the Ponca culture and language. He was also active in fighting for Native American rights and was instrumental in bringing awareness to the Cherokee Strip Centennial Statue. From his efforts, members of the community and Ponca Tribal Council would form the Standing Bear Foundation. He grew up in Ponca City and graduated from Ponca City Senior High School in 1958 and later graduated Barber School and Southwestern Indian Polytechnic Institute (SIPI). Edwin and Harriett Cerre Little Cook were united in marriage on December 31, 2009, and made their home in Ponca City, Oklahoma. Edwin was an active member of the Ponca Chapter Native American Church. He was Nu-Dah-Hunga for the Wah-Sah-Bey (Black Bear) Society and life-long singer for the Pa'-Tha-Ta Scalp Dance Society. He loved playing golf and was a big sports fan of OU & OSU football and Thunder Basketball. Edwin enjoyed going to local tribal dances, events and playing golf, but his greatest enjoyment was spending time with his beloved children and grandchildren.

Edwin is survived by his wife, Harriett Little Cook; brothers John Little Cook, Oliver Little Cook; sister, Carol Little Cook LeClair and adopted sister, Eva Harragarra; sons, Chris Little Cook, Darren Little Cook, Little Bear Little Cook, Andrew Snake, Richard Little Cook, and Glen Little Cook, Jr.; daughters, Donna Maison and Tara Littlecook; eight grandchildren – Brett Maison, Jordan Maison, Meagen Perez, Hunter Little Cook, Sean Little Cook, Corey Little Cook, Morgan Little Cook, A. J. Aguilar, five great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Edwin is preceded in death by his father and mother, brother, Henry Little Cook and sister, Cecelia Hickman.

Casket Bearers will be Eugene Cameron, Lloyd Deere, Steven Little Cook, O. J. Little Cook, Pete Little Cook, and Gideon GoodEagle. Honorary casket bearers will be Dwight Buffalohead, Sherman Bold Warrior, Louis Headman, Garland Pappan, Carter Camp, Johnny Kemble, Lenny Skye, Johnny Red Eagle, Ed Red Eagle, Jr. and Myron Red Eagle.

A traditional meal will be held at noon on Friday, July 12, 2013, at the Ponca Cultural Center with burial services to follow at the Ponca Tribal Cemetery with Don Patterson officiating. Burial arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home of Ponca City, Oklahoma.
