Wilkie D. Eagle Sr.
November 4, 1940 - February 10, 2025
Wilkie Eagle Sr. went on his journey from his home in Marland on February 10th 2025. He was born to Lucile Roy and Chief McKinley Eagle. November 4th, 1940, in Pawnee Oklahoma.
Traditional noon feast will be held 12 p.m. Thursday, February 13, 2025 at the Ponca Cultural Center with the give away to follow . Funeral Services will Follow at 2 p.m. Interment will be in the Ponca Tribal Cemetery with arrangements in care to Grace Memorial Chapel of Ponca City, OK. Pallbearers will be Grandsons, Ashton Jones, John Roy, Antwonie Pratt, Rudy Salinas, Ezekial Salinas, Aiden Littlecrow, Terrence Pratt, Paul Wood, Toby Eagle, Doug Eagle Jr, Julian Pratt, Jonah Pratt, Ellsworth Eagle and Sam White. Honorary bearers will be the Ponca Gorde Dance Society.
He went to Ponca City High School where he marched in the band playing the tuba. Graduating in 1958. Wilkie extended his education by attending Chilocco Indian School to learn masonry and carpentry. Wilkie met the love of his life, Julia Marie LeClair. Wilkie working for the Ponca tribe under numerous departments being housing authority, fixing houses, food, distribution and meals on wheels until retiring in 2022. Wilkie was blessed with five children: Irma Eagle, Toni Eagle, Margie Eagle, Rosemary Eagle all of Ponca City, and Wilkie Eagle Jr of the home. Siblings being Hiawatha Eagle, Marlene Rhodd, Francene BigGoose, Doug Eagle and Lester Eagle. 10 grandchildren and 19 greats from Irma. 5 grandchildren from Margie. 4 grandchildren and 3 greats from Rosemary. 5 grandchildren and 7 greats from Toni.
Wilkie was preceded in death by parents McKinley and Lucille. Siblings Hiawatha Eagle, Francene BigGoose and Marlene Rhodd, Grandson Fabian Pratt and daughter Carol Eagle.
He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He took great pride in his gourd dance society involving grandsons John Roy, Antwone Pratt and Ashton Jones. He also took great pride in knowing all Ponca songs, traditions, hymns. He honored and spoke highly of being direct bloodline of Ponca Chief Horsechief Eagle. If he wasn't Singing, gourd dancing, or gathering with family for food and prayers, you would catch him at home watching news, old westerns, wheel of fortune or football cheering on the Dallas Cowboys with his son Jr. and a cup of coffee or root beer. He would always welcome family, friends or strangers to his home or campsites with a big smile and plate of food. He would take the role of father/grandfather to anyone in need of structure, guidance and love. He will be greatly missed and honored by his family and all of The Ponca Nation. Wilkie D.
