November 6, 1948 ~ December 9, 2019

Lawrence “Larry” Lynn Young, age 71, long time resident of Marland, OK, passed away peacefully at his home with his family by his side on December 9, 2019.

Larry was born November 6, 1948 in West Plains, MO to Thomas Lynn and Bernice Henrietta (Walkie) Young. Larry was raised in the Kildare and Ponca City area. In 1966 at the age of 16 he felt he needed to serve his country and enlisted into the United States Army. Larry served during the Vietnam War and ranked as an E-5, Sergeant. He was honorably discharged in 1968. During his time at war he married the Love of his Life, Gloria Darlene Jones on April 6, 1968 in Ponca City, OK. To this union Larry and Darlene had four children. They made their home in Ponca City until April 1985 when they moved to Marland, OK.

Larry worked at Braden’s Meat Packing Co., from there he plastered swimming pools and then went to work for Sullivan’s Trucking. He started out as a truck driver, however after a few years of driving a truck he realized he was missing out on raising his kids, so he worked in the shop as a diesel mechanic. From there he worked his way up as the shop foreman. He retired, after working 40 years, in February 2016.

Larry loved working, working, camping, fishing, playing cards, riding his motorcycle, carpentry work, raising his family, enjoying his grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and working, yes, we said it again (working). Our dad was dedicated to providing a good life for his family. Very Seldom did we take vacations. Dad didn’t tell us he loved us every day, he showed us with his hard work, and you could see it in his hard-working hands.

Larry is survived by his wife Darlene of 51 wonderful years of the home. His daughters Tina (Gary) Welch of Bartlesville, OK, Michelle (Ronnie) Wardlow of Newkirk, OK, one son, Travis (Chasity) Young of Marland, OK, mothers, Fern Loveall and Maxine Dimond, nine grandchildren, Tyson (Kandis) Wardlow, Tyler (Dasha) Wardlow, Teonna (Donald) Wardlow, Tanner (Kristy) Young, Tiffany Young, Tessa (Braxton) Wardlow, Tiara (Matthew) Wardlow, Thristan (Jacob) Young, and Hannah Welch, eighteen great grandchildren, brothers, Mike Hachtel of Springfield, MO, James Young of Newkirk, OK, David Dimond of Seattle, WA, and Pete Loveall of Arizona, sisters, Becky, DeeDee, Sherry and Jeanie, all of Arizona and Kim of Joplin, MO, numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Preceding him in death, one son, Larry Wayne Young, parents, Thomas Lynn and Bernice Young and Bill Loveall, two brothers, Jimmy Loveall and Benny Dimond, daughter-in-law, Amy Young, father-in-law, Merle Jones, mother-in-law, Frances Jones, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

There will be a time of viewing for Larry on Sunday, December 15th from 1-6pm at Grace Memorial Chapel, 2016 N 14th St, Ponca City, OK. His funeral will be held at 2pm on Monday, December 16th, also at the funeral home, followed by his committal service at the Ponca City I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Pastor Chris Short will be presiding over the services.

Words of encouragement and messages of Condolence may be left for the family online at www.gracememorialchapel.net. Larry’s care is under the guidance of Grace Memorial Chapel.
