Rodney Wilson, longtime resident of Ponca City, passed Saturday, November 28, 2015 at the Shawn Manor Nursing Home after a long battle cancer. He was 90 years of age.
Rodney was born November 5, 1925 in Arkansas City, Kansas, the son of Ed Wilson and Birdie (Coulter) Wilson. He enlisted in the United States Army in May 1946 and served in Korea. He was honorably discharged in May 1947. He was married to Virginia Hale in 1948 in Arkansas City. The couple had two children, Lynn Wilson and Connie Graham.
Rodney had worked in the Shidler and Ponca City area for 40 years as an independent oilfield pumper. He enjoyed anything to do with mechanical work. He retired in August of 1990. He was married to Elsie James on November 1, 1963 and had been married 52 years. Elsie has one son, Grady James.
He is survived by his wife Elsie, of the home; children Lynn Wilson, Connie Graham and husband Larry, and Grady James; 15 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; one brother, Grant Wilson and one sister, Patty Berens; other extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Linda sue Wilson; his siblings Victor Rogers, Allie Collier, Clara Mae Alsip, Glora Dean McFarland and Dale Wilson.
A visitation time for family and friends will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at Grace Memorial Chapel. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at the Ponca City I.O.O.F. Cemetery with grandson Brian James presiding. Arrangements are under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Wilson's name to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, Cancer Research, 825 NE 13th St., Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73104.
