Edith Elizabeth (Shingleton) Wilson passed away peacefully on May 7, 2017 at her apartment at Via Christi Village, where she resided the past 11 months. She was surrounded by family.
Edith was born on a farm in McCloud, OK on April 2, 1918; the daughter of Guy and Maude (Jones) Shingleton. She attended White Rock School in Lincoln County until the family moved to Ponca City when she was 8 years old where she continued her schooling at Ponca City schools.
In 1935 she married the love of her life, Elroy Wilson, in Ponca City where they established their residence. They were married 54 years until his death on September 28, 1989. Together they raised three children, Nancy, Bobby, and Shirley. They were proud that all three children were graduates of Ponca City High School.
Edith was a seamstress, a homemaker, and a wonderful grandmother to her grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening, baking pecan pies, church work, and reading her Bible.
She is survived by her children; Bobby and wife Linda of Ponca City, Shirley and husband Jim Hazelbaker of Ponca City, and Mel and wife Iona Gaddis of Ada, OK. She is also survived by 9 grandsons, David Gaddis of Edmond, OK, Roger and Leigh Gaddis of Ada, OK, Daniel and Sally Gaddis of Austin, TX, Don and Janice Gaddis of Ponca City, Darryl and Cliffa Gaddis of Colorado Springs, CO, Tommy and Jessica Wilson of Midland, TX, Johnny and Laurie Wilson of Ponca City, Jim Hazelbaker of Ponca City, Jerry Hazelbaker of Ponca City; 15 great-grandchildren, 17 great great-grandchildren and special nephews, Roy Wilson, Steve Fisher, Billie Golay; special long-time friends, Evelyn Thurmond, Charlene West, Betty Cramp, Gerald North and Carol Watkins.
Edith was preceded in death by her husband, Elroy Wilson, daughter, Nancy Gaddis, her parents and four brothers.
A graveside ceremony will be held on Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at 1:00 pm at the Hope Chapel at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Ponca City. Edith will be available for viewing at Trout Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm and on Wednesday, May 10, 2017 from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of North Central Oklahoma, 445 Fairview, Ponca City, OK 74601, or First Christian Church, Friendship Feast, 200 N 5th, Ponca City, OK 74601.
