Cheryl Beth Wilson
March 11, 1938 - June 12, 2011
Cheryl Beth Wilson, resident of Ponca City, passed away Sunday, June 12, 2011, at the Stillwater Medical Center. She was 73.
The memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Jack Shamburger, officiating. A private family burial will preceded the service at Odd Fellows Cemetery. The family will greet friends at Trout Funeral Home on Tuesday evening on June 14, 2011 from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory.
Cheryl was born on March 11, 1938 to Ferdie J. Deering and Mildred (Jennings) Deering in Oklahoma City, OK. She was raised in Oklahoma City, OK. She attended Nichols Hills and Edgemere grade schools and graduated from Northwest Classen High School in 1956. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church. She went to college at Oklahoma State University and was a member of Chi Omega Sorority. In the spring of 1957, she met Dick Wilson at the Baptist Student Union on campus. They were married in May of 1959 at the Trinity Baptist Church in Oklahoma City. Cheryl graduated from OSU with a degree in Nutrition in 1960. They lived near Wood River, IL where her husband worked for Conoco and was transferred to Ponca City in 1962. Cheryl worked for several nursing homes in the area including Medford, Blackwell, Newkirk and Ponca City until she retired. Cheryl was the local co-coordinator for the Ponca City Special Olympics for many years.
Cheryl was a fine Christian and was a role model for her friends, co-workers and family. She didn’t ever say anything bad about anybody. She taught Sunday school at First Baptist Church in Ponca City for many years. She always found time to watch her children and grandchildren play sports and other activities. She will be greatly missed by her friends and family. Her children loved her dearly. They are grateful for her life and thankful of her genuine love for them. Carrie and Clay are glad she is reunited with her granddaughters.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Dick Wilson of Ponca City; daughter Carrie Wakeman of Granbury, TX and her son Andy Wakeman of Jackson Hole, WY; sons: Steve Wilson of Ponca City; Doug Wilson and his wife Terri and their children: Luke, Brent and Leslie all of Ponca City; Kyle Wilson and his wife Nikki and their children: Ashley and Maddie Wilson all of Little Elm, TX; and Clay Wilson and his wife Alicia and their children: Jackson, Eli, and Mia all of Sherman, TX; brother Robert Deering and his wife Brenda of Azle, TX and their sons: Duane Deering, David Deering and his wife Krissy all of Dallas, TX. She is also survived by lots of loving friends and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her parents and two granddaughters: Chloe Dyan Wilson and Allison "Alli" Marie Wakeman.
