Mary E. Vann, 89, resident of Ponca City, passed away on Monday, July 13, 2009 at the Ponca City Medical Center.

Mary was born on August 14, 1919 the daughter of Nelson Franklin and Maud Newberry Franklin in Hennepin, Oklahoma. Mary married George Columbus Vann of Cedar, Oklahoma on August 18, 1950 in Newkirk, Oklahoma. She was an active member at St. Johns Baptist Church in Ponca City for several years and was a longtime deaconess who served faithfully until she began to have health issues. Mary treasured her family and they were a very important part of her life. Her presence will be greatly missed by those who knew her.

She is survived by her children, George C. Vann of Westminster, Colorado and Marilyn Vann of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Janette Fleming of Edmond, Oklahoma, Jeff Whitlow of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Kim Marshall of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Rose Mary Khalid of Edmond, Oklahoma, Anthony Wofford of Littleton, Colorado, Arzelia Borne of Aurora, Colorado and Willia Miller of Aurora, Colorado; numerous great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and other distant relatives.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, George Columbus Vann in 1980; and son, Bill Whitlow and infant son, John Kinnard Vann; step-daughters, Adris Sidney and Rowana Woffard.

The graveside service will be held at 11:00a.m., Saturday, July 18, 2009 at Odd Fellows Cemetery with The Rev. Raymond J. Petties Jr. officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Marys honor to St. Johns Baptist Church, 1009 S. 11th St., Ponca City, Oklahoma 74601.

A meal will be served immediately after the service at St. John's Baptist Church.
