Elmer Skaggs Dies at Hospital
Elmer Skaggs, 70, of 1811 South Eleventh, died early this morning in Ponca City Hospital after an illness of several weeks.
Born July 25, 1901, in Graves County, Ky., son of Mr. and Mrs. John P. Skaggs, he came to Oklahoma at the age of six and attended school at Hayden.
He married Matilda Coffey in 1934 at Vinita and they came to Ponca City in 1935. The couple owned and operated Matilda's Place at 1811 South Eleventh.
Skaggs was a member of the Martin Temple CME Church.
Surviving are one step-son, John Allen Coffey, Wichita; two brothers, A. Skaggs, Nowata and Theodore Skaggs, Coffeyville, Kan.; two sisters, Mrs. Altimer Rogers and Mrs. Minnie Cunningham, both of Nowata.
Mrs. Skaggs preceded him in death on Aug. 23, 1971.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Grace Memorial Chapel.
