Roy Don Sims

Roy Don Sims, resident of Ponca City, passed away Sunday, June 9, 2024.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, June 13, 2024, at Trout Funeral Home, from 4:00 PM-8:00 PM with family present till 6pm. His funeral service will be Friday, June 14, 2024, at 10:00 AM, at Trout Funeral Home chapel, 505 W. Grand Ave, Ponca City, OK 74601. Burial will follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery, 1206 S. Waverly, Ponca City, OK 74601. Arrangements under the direction of Trout Funeral Home and Crematory, 505 W. Grand Ave, Ponca City, OK 74601.
Roy was born on May 29th, 1940, in Childress Texas. The son of Elbert and Christine Sims. His young life was spent living in many states as his dad followed the plumbing construction field and finally settling down in Ponca City, Oklahoma in 1955. Roy graduated from Po-Hi in1959 and continued his education at Northern Oklahoma Collage and Oklahoma State University.
He married his high school sweetheart, Doris Knox on June 3rd, 1961, at the 1st Methodist Church in Ponca City, Oklahoma. They celebrated their 63rd in 2024.
He joined Continental Oil Company in 1962 and retired in 1993 as Superintendent of Data Base Management, Exploration Division. He rejoined the work force in 2006, as Chief Engineer for Native Lights Casino in Newkirk, Oklahoma and retired in 2013.
In 1966, he was a graduate member of the special Forces "B" Detachment, 2nd Battalion, 12th Special Forces Group Airborne, at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Ponca City, Oklahoma. And Exalted Ruler of the Ponca City Elks Lodge 1990-1991.
Roy was an upstanding man and a man of his word. If you needed help, he was right there and he could do anything. His daughter's referred to him as "Like a Rock". He will lovingly be missed by all and especially by his "baby dog" Rudy.
He was preceded in death by his parents Elbert and Christine Sims. And only brother Elbert Sims.
Survivors include his wife Doris Knox Sims, Daughters Nancy Sims Smith and her husband Lonny Smith and Jenni Sims Legg both of Ponca City, Ok. Grandchildren Marcy Sober Ponca City, Ok. Libby Long of Shidler Ok., Austin Legg and wife Kamree of Barnsdall, Ok. Abbie Legg Sells and husband Riley Sells of Stillwater, Ok. Luke Legg and wife Paige of Tonkawa, Ok. Katie Smith Irving and husband Tommy of Ponca City, Ok. And Josh Smith of Houston Texas. Great grand Children Blaine Meyer, Tannor and Treavor Goodenough, Coleman Cash and Carter Long, Chancelor Confer, Kayde Kashton and Adilyn Legg, Hadlea and Tyler Legg, Wesley Logan and Payton Irving. And many nieces and nephews.
Pall bearers: Austin Legg, Luke Legg, Riley Sells, Lonny Smith, Josh Smith and Tommy Irving.
Honorary Pall Bearers: Frank Childers, Skip Russell and Mark Russell.
