Minnie Louise Sharp, resident of Ponca City, passed away on Sunday, March 30, 2008 at the Ponca City Medical Center. She was 88.
The Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 2, 2008 at the First Christian Church with the Rev. Larry B. Metzger, minister of First Christian Church, officiating. Family visitation will be in the lobby of the First Christian Church from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Burial will follow at the Odd Fellows Cemetery. Arrangements are made under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory.
Minnie was born on Monday, December 15, 1919 in Morrison, OK to Joseph William Opat and Grace Belle Lee. She graduated from Morrison High School in 1937 and later graduated from Botts Business College in Ponca City. Minnie married the late John Sharp on August 10, 1942 at McCord Field in Tacoma, WA. During WWII, Minnie worked for the War Department in Washington D.C. and Paine Field, Washington. After returning to Ponca City, she worked for Nieman Northcutt Medical Clinic, Northcutt and Northcutt Attorneys, the City of Ponca City and eventually retired from Conoco. Her hobbies included quilting, knitting and crocheting. She was an active member of the First Christian Church.
She is survived by one daughter, Becky Helems and son-in-law Jerry Helems of Ponca City, Oklahoma, granddaughter Tiffany Helems of Lewisville, Texas and grandson Todd Helems of Owasso, Oklahoma.
She is preceded in death by husband John Sharp, infant son Dennis Jay Sharp, parents Joseph William Opat and Grace Belle Lee Opat, and infant sister Mildred Lee Opat. Casket-bearers will be Donald Helems, Ronald Helems, George Martin, Earl Ball, Ronald Sheldon and Owen Greer.
