Earlene (Russell) Roach

Earlene was born January 19, 1921 in Quinton, Oklahoma, the daughter of William Earl Russell and Sarah Etta (Glenn) Russell. She was a 1938 graduate of Quinton High School. She was a 1941 graduate from Westminster Jr. College, Tehuacana, Texas. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in 1947 from the University of Oklahoma and her Master’s Degree from OU in 1950. Earlene taught elementary education in Cavanaugh, Arkansas before moving to Ponca City in 1945. She also taught in the Ponca City Elementary Schools for 20 years, retiring in 1983. She was married to Lloyd B. Roach on April 27, 1950 in Ada, Oklahoma. She was a member of the First Christian Church and later Asbury United Methodist Church. She had been active for many years in various State and National Teachers Associations. Her enjoyments included reading, giving book reviews, cross stitching, fishing and playing board games with family.
She is survived by her three children, Dr. William R. (Bill) Roach and wife Pam, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Mary Ann Cunningham and husband Daryl, of Walsh, Colorado, and Ruth Marie Daugherty and husband Mike, of Ponca City; one sister, Mildred Cella of Norman, Oklahoma; six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Lloyd, on August 28, 1993; two brothers, C. K. Russell and Altus Russell; one sister, O’Leta Sutton. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at the Ponca City I.O.O.F. Cemetery with First Christian Church Pastor Larry Metzger presiding.
