Leo Bertha Pitts Dies; Once Ran Grocery Store Here
Leo Bertha Pitts, 417 North Ash, died Friday morning at her home. She was 89.
Born March 24, 1889, in Hewins, Kan., she spent her early life there and moved with her family to Pawhuska in 1907. She married Ray Frank Pitts at Pawhuska in the early 1920's.
The couple came to Ponca City and Pitts was employed by Marland Oil Company for a time and later opened a small grocery store in the 400 block on South Third.
Following his death 41 years ago, Mrs. Pitts took over the grocery business and operated the store until 1955 when she retired. Ten years ago she went to live with her daughter.
Surviving are her daughter, Mrs. Patsy Lopez, 417 North Ash; a son, Floyd F. Pitts, Moore, and a sister, Grace Parks of Chautauqua, Kan. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in E. M. Trout and Sons Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Bill McCloud officiating. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery.
