Orrin N. Pederson, longtime resident of Ponca City, passed Monday, July 25, 2011 in Norman, Oklahoma. He was 88 years of age.
Orrin was born March 12, 1923 in Thief River Falls, Minnesota, the son of Palmer Pederson and Alma Anderson Pederson. He was a graduate of Thief River Falls High School where he excelled at sports and was offered a football scholarship to the University of North Dakota where he later attended. Orrin served his country in the United States Army Air Force with the 9th Air Force, 36th fighter group in Europe at the end of World War II.
He was married to Evelyn Luree Hudson on March 8, 1944 in Washington, Kansas. The couple had lived in Seattle, Chicago, Omaha and St. Joseph, Missouri, prior to moving to Ponca City in 1969. Orrin later attended Northern Oklahoma College where he earned his Associate Degree. Orrin worked as a production engineer with Continental Can Company of Ponca City until his retirement in 1989. The couple then operated the Pederson Tax and Accounting service. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Masonic Lodge where he had held the office of Royal Patron of the Order of Amaranth. His enjoyments were his family, music, sports, especially football, carpentry work and his pet poodle Nicky.
He is survived by his four children, Luree Pederson Hayes and husband, John, of Ponca City, Marsha Pederson Mumby and husband, Don, of Oklahoma City, Mark Pederson and wife, Suzanne, of Lewisville, Texas, and Brent Pederson and wife, Theresa, of Sapulpa, Oklahoma11 grandchildren, Todd Hayes, Scott Hayes and wife, Kristi, Amy Hayes Marchesoni and husband John, Kristie Gormley and husband Jim, Karyn Pederson Harris, Christian Pederson, Crimson Pederson, Elizabeth Pederson, Rebekah Pederson, Sarah Pederson and Joshua Pederson 7 great grandchildren, Devin Stout, Tyler Stout, Gage Stout, Tucker Stout, Scotty Hayes, Adelynn Marchesoni and Severous Pederson. He was preceded in death by his parents his wife one infant son 3 year old brother Amos Pederson and infant sibling twins.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at Grace Memorial Chapel with Rev. Robert Weaver presiding. Interment will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery of Ponca City.Casket bearers will be his family members.
