Joanna Lee Moneymaker, resident of Ponca City, passed away Thursday, May 1, 2014, at Ponca City Medical Center from complications of pneumonia.
Joanna was born on September 7, 1929 to Charley and Ollie Anderson in Ponca City. Joanna graduated in 1948 from Ponca City Senior High School. In 1950, Joanna met Buddy G. Moneymaker at the Poncan Theatre where they were both employed. They wed in Leesville, LA on January 21, 1951, and were married for 63 years.
Joanna worked as a bookkeeper and cashier at Red Bud Grocery store for many years. She then moved on to manage the grill at the Pioneer Bowling Alley and retired from Conoco in 1984. After retirement, Joanna volunteered her time at the Women of the Moose serving as Senior Regent and also volunteered at the Ponca City Opportunity Center. Most recently, Joanna served as a substitute teacher in the special needs classroom, as these kids were her adopted grandchildren. Joanna was an avid bowler, seamstress and sports fan. She was also an OU enthusiast and enjoyed any sports her kids were playing, often coaching at Kids, Inc. Joanna received the most joy from her grandchildren.
Joanna was preceded in death by her parents, brother and grandson. Joanna will be remembered lovingly as a wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend.
She is survived by her husband, Buddy G. Moneymaker of the home daughter, Jennifer Moneymaker of Ponca City son, Dennis Moneymaker of Albuquerque, NM daughter, Suzanna Frank of Keller, TX and daughter Angela Moneymaker of Scottsdale, AZ grandchildren Jason Rhea, Adam Rhea, Rene Ferguson of Ponca City. Tracy Circle of Blackwell and Spencer Misko of Keller, TX. She is also survived by 13 greatgrandchildren and 6 great greatgrandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 6th at St. Pauls United Methodist Church with Rev. Doyle Sharp officiating. Burial will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery of Ponca City.
