Barbara Kay (Adams) Mayes
January 29, 1942 - August 4, 2022

Barbara Kay (Adams) Mayes passed away peacefully at the Clarehouse in Tulsa on August 4th, 2022 after a very brief illness. Graveside services will be 10am Thursday, August 11, 2022 at Odd Fellows Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory, 505 W Grand Ave, Ponca City, OK 74601.

Barbara was born in Ponca City, OK January 29th, 1942 to Ralph and Hertha (Miller) Adams. She attended Ponca City schools, and Oklahoma State University in Stillwater. She graduated from Oklahoma State in 1964. Barbara married Jerry Mayes July 31st, 1978 in Tulsa OK. Barbara was a dedicated educator and spent many years as principal at Bryant Elementary in Tulsa where she touched the lives of countless children and made lifelong friends.

Her father, Ralph passed away while Barbara was in college, and from then on, Barbara and Hertha's close friends became "family". She was an avid reader, enjoyed traveling, and going out to eat. She spent countless hours following the Hainzinger kids (and grandkids) to rodeos and livestock shows. In retirement, she discovered Mahjong, and enjoyed playing this game of strategy with a group of close friends. She was blessed with loyal friends and neighbors.

Barbara is survived by Hank and Sara Hainzinger, Jeff and Nancy (Hainzinger) Todd and their families, Jason Mayes, Ora Lee Hainzinger, and dear friend Tony Lutman. She was preceded in death by her parents Ralph and Hertha, her husband Jerry, and lifelong friends Neta Lutman and Henry Hainzinger.
