Sondra "Soni" Kay Kodesh
October 18, 1943 - December 25, 2023
Sondra "Soni" Kay Kodesh, a cherished soul who graced this world for 80 remarkable years, bid her final farewell on the peaceful Christmas morning of December 25, 2023, at her home in Marland, Oklahoma.
Born on October 18, 1943, in Ponca City, Oklahoma, Soni was the beloved daughter of Ed and Beulah Kodesh. Her roots were firmly planted in the fertile soil of Noble County, where she embraced the simple joys of life as a farmer's daughter. She navigated her formative years attending local schools and graduated from Marland High School in 1961 before pursuing further education at Northern Oklahoma College in Tonkawa.
Soni's life was woven with threads of passion and community spirit. Her green thumb found solace in the vibrant hues of her garden, and she contributed her business skills to the Marland Co-Op for many years. As a member of the Methodist Christian Church, Soni cherished the fellowship of her Marland community and dedicated several years to the Oklahoma Home & Community Education Group (Bliss Homemakers). She delighted in experimenting with new recipes, creating tasty side dishes for family and friends during the holidays. Her loving spirit was reflected when she rescued Hope, a stray Blue Heeler, who brought her comfort and companionship for many years.
Soni was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Beulah. She leaves behind a legacy of love, warmth, and cherished memories, survived by many family members, cousins, and her best friend of 75 years, Marilyn Balcer. Gratitude is extended to Darrin and Belinda Wesbrook, whose unwavering care and friendship for years provided solace to Soni in her final days.
A memorial service to celebrate Soni's life will be held at the Methodist-Christian Church in Marland on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. Her ashes will find their eternal resting place next to her parents at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Ponca City, a final reunion with the land that cradled her dreams.
