June 12, 1932 ~ November 30, 2020

Jimmie Ruth Jones, 88 a long time resident of Ponca City, OK died Monday November 30, 2020 in her home surrounded by family. Although physically she was weak, but her spirit was strong throughout because she knew that to be absent from the body is to be present with the lord.

On June 12, 1932, Jimmie was born in Muskogee, OK to Scipio "Andy" and Emma Lee Harris. Jimmie was the fifth born child in a line of five daughters and one son. Very early in her childhood she moved to Ponca City where she attended Attucks School and was a faithful member of Connor Chapel A.M.E. Church. Jimmie worked at St. Joseph's Medical Center and various other jobs. While at St. Joseph's, Jimmie worked in the central linens department with a very close and tight-knit group of ladies whom were life-long friends.

Jimmie was the mother of 13 children that she loved in her own unique way. She taught her children the importance of leaning on each other as she spent several years as a working single mother. Jimmie was always surrounded by love and family and friends who were always there to assist when needed. She was a dedicated mother, sister, grandmother and friend.

Also, Jimmie was a member of Orpha #151 Order of the Eastern Star. She served in several key positions that included the Star Points and Associate Conductress. Jimmie for many of her 25 years of membership enjoyed attending the Grand Sessions (Conference) with her Sister Sarah Walker and sharing her learning experiences with Orpha members.

Jimmie was preceded in death by both parents and all of her siblings, Sarah Walker, Josephine Roland-Norwood, Evelyn Hughes, Lillian Givens and Andrew Harris Jr. Her husbands, Cleophus Veasey and Yule Jones, sons Dillard and Ricky Harris and her son-in-law Samuel Roland. Three grandchildren, four great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Jimmie leaves to cherish her memory her loving children: Theresa Roland, Mary Shaw (husband Fred), Cleophus Harris (wife Meg), Jerry Harris, Patricia Chandler, Edith Lockett, Brent Veasey, Trent Veasey, Yuleen Jones, Michael Jones and Leslie Jones. And a multitude of grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
