Aaron Joe Hill, longtime resident of Ponca City, passed away Saturday, January 21, 2012 at the Ponca City Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at the age of 72.

Joe was born March 28, 1939 in Dallas, Georgia, the son of Aaron Hill and Vivian Tuggle Hill. He attended elementary school in Dallas, Georgia with the family relocating to Independence, Kansas in 1951. He attended Independence High School where Joe became an outstanding running back for the Independence Bulldogs coached by the late Kayo Emmitt. Joe was an intricate part in helping the Bulldogs win 49 consecutive games during his tenure at I.H.S. He furthered his education at the Independence Community Junior College.

He was married to Betty Strotter on May 10, 1986 in Ponca City. The couple had shared 25 wonderful years together. He was employed some 25 years for Nichols Machine Shop and most recently with C.S.C. of Ponca City. Joe was a wellknown referee of baseball and basketball in Ponca City and the surrounding area. Joe loved to be with his grandchildren. He also loved people and enjoyed visiting at length with those he came in contact with. His other enjoyments included fishing and playing golf.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Betty, of the home his children, Richard and Debbie Trice, Sam and Cathy Trice, Sherri Trice and Thelma and Andy Kreger, all of Ponca City one brother, Donald Ray Hill and wife, Vernatha, of Independence, Kansas 13 grandchildren, Asia Trice, Jasmine Trice, Tasha Matthews, Teri Garren, Karreston Hill, Lyric Chandler, Lisa Garren, Cameron Moore, James Trice, Ayden Kreger, Colby Trice, Jason Cain and Adam Cain 3 great grandsons and 2 great granddaughters aunts Adella Hill and Jessie L. Thomas numerous other cousins and extended family. Also Joe leaves behind special and close high school friends David Lesco and Pack St.Clair. He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Michael Joseph Hill.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, January 26, 2012 in the Worship Center of the First Baptist Church of Ponca City with Rev. Oscar Adams presiding. Interment will follow in the Ponca City I.O.O.F. Cemetery under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel.
