April 27, 1955 - April 15, 2019
Lou Ann Garrity, resident of Ponca City, passed into the arms of her loving husband Mike on April 15, 2019. She was 63.
Lou Ann was born on April 27, 1955 to Don and Marjorie Irons in Ponca City, Oklahoma. She attended Roosevelt Elementary, East Junior High, and graduated from Ponca City Senior High School in 1973. Lou Ann attended University of Oklahoma. While at OU, she met Mike Garrity, a serviceman who was home on leave, through mutual friends. They married on January 15, 1977 at First Baptist Church in Ponca City. She then became a true blue Navy Wife by Mike’s side at every posting. After Mike’s retirement from the Navy, Lou Ann and Mike both continued to work in the defense industry, where she retired from Lockheed Martin in New Orleans, Louisiana in 2013. At that time, they moved back to Ponca City to reestablish their home and be close to family.
Lou Ann loved outdoor gardening, cooking and decorating, which was apparent in the beautiful homes they had wherever they lived. They also enjoyed traveling. Since their Navy career, they were able to travel to many parts of the country together. After Mike’s death, she attended many concerts with her dear friend Gaye Cooper and other friends.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Ponca City and was proud to service others through church events. She was always there for others with kind words and an open heart. Lou Ann loved Sooner football and was a huge New Orleans Saints Fan.
Lou Ann is survived by her faithful fur baby Emily of the home, sister Adonna Glover and partner Steve Barabasz, brother Jeff Irons and wife Betty, brother-in-laws Mitch Garrity and wife Deanna, Mark Garrity, Matt Garrity and wife Teresa. She was especially close to her nieces, nephew, and great niece and nephews. They are Tanya O’Grady and her husband Kenny, Tricia Rinehart and her boys Collin and Carter, Tracy Garrity, and her daughter Addison, Marlana Garrity and her boys Kobe, Brendon, and Ty, Robert Irons and his son Silas and daughter Sadie. Pallbearers are Mitch Garrity, Matt Garrity, Stan Bivin, Collin Rinehart, Carter Rinehart, and Steve Barabasz.
A celebration of her life will be held on Friday, April 19, 2019, at 10am at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Mike Smith officiating. Lou Ann will be laid to rest at Odd Fellows Cemetery following the ceremony. Friends and loved ones may pay their respects at the funeral home on Thursday, April 18th until 8pm.
