Oneita Underwood Gargiulo
Ponca City IOOF Cemetery
Oneita Underwood Gargiulo, resident of Ponca City, passed away on
Wednesday, October 15, 2008. She was 88.
Oneita was born to Thomas Lee Underwood and Betsy Beulla (Patterson)
Underwood on January 27, 1920 in Talihina, Oklahoma.
Oneita married Anthony Angelo Gargiulo on October 27, 1949 in Brooklyn, New
York where the couple made their home. She was employed as an insurance
underwriter for 11 years there. Her husband was an Italian chef and taught
Oneita the art of Italian cooking. She became a great Italian cook and many
of her recipes are fondly remembered. Among her hobbies she was an amateur
radio operator, call sign, KAZNPJ. Although she never had any children of
her own, she dearly loved her many nieces and nephews as well as animals.
She is survived by her beloved sister, Jimmie Smith of Ponca City, Oklahoma;
numerous nieces, nephews and very good friends, Tamara and Alan Webber of
Ponca City.
She is preceded in death by her parents; loving husband; brothers, Everett
Underwood and Willie Underwood; sister, Gladys Wooten; and brother-in-law,
Elvis Smith.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, October 20, 2008 at
Grace Memorial Chapel with Reverend David L. Bigger of First Free Will
Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery in
Ponca City under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel.

Humane Society, P.O. Box 1671, Ponca City, Oklahoma 74602 or to St. Joseph’s
Catholic Church, 320 W. N. Ave., Tonkawa, Oklahoma 74653.
