Sammy Joe Garlett, 80, of Ponca City, OK, left this life on Monday, September 16, 2024, at Via Christi Village, where he had resided for the last seven months. Viewing will be held at 1:00 PM, Monday, September 23, 2024, with a Graveside Ceremony at 2:00 PM, at the Pavilion in Odd Fellows Cemetery. Causal wear. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory, 505 W. Grand Ave, Ponca City, OK, 74601.
Sammy was born on June 1, 1944, in Ponca City, OK, the second of five children, born to Carl and Lucille Garlett. He attended the old Lincoln School, East Junior High, and graduated from Ponca City High School in 1962. He later graduated from Northern Oklahoma Junior College in 1964, and went on to OSU where he graduated with a Mechanical Engineering Degree in 1967. He was employed by Boeing Aircraft in Wichita, KS and Seattle, WA. He returned to Ponca City and worked at Conoco for the remainder of his career ending as an inspector who traveled to locations in the United States as well as over seas. He was the third generation of Garlett men employed at Conoco.
Sam is survived by: his wife, Jaretta; son, Samuel of San Antonio, TX; step-daughter, Brandy Welch of Ponca City, OK; and granddaughter, Breleigh Welch of Ponca City, OK. His sister, Carla Ellis of Blackwell, OK, also survives. He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Wayne Lee, and Bobby Gene; and sister, Gayle Marie Brown.
