Helen Rains Elzo passed away peacefully in hospice care in her home in Skiatook, OK at the age of 80 on Tuesday, December 20, 2016.

Helen is survived by her husband, Ned Elzo; seven children, Vickie Mashunkashey, Tulsa, Shannon McGuire and Sean McGuire, Pawhuska, Mary McGuire and spouse Ed, Alturas, CA, Joyce Miller and spouse James, Heath, TX, Molly Snively and spouse John, Skiatook, Peggy Surritte and spouse Tony, Skiatook, two step- daughters, Julie Dierks and spouse Greg, Tulsa, Amy Luikey and spouse Mike, Tulsa; 20 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren; sister, Joyce Brock and spouse Ireland, Skiatook.

She is preceded in death by father, Edgar Franklin Rains, mother, Mary Ellen Sallee Rains, sister, Jean Walker, and brother, Kenneth Rains.

Helen was born on August 24, 1936 in Ponca City, OK to Edgar and Mary Ellen Rains. She attended Ponca City and Oklahoma City schools and retired from Conoco Phillips 27 years ago. Her family remembers her as a kind, gentle, patient, wife, mother and grandmother who loved deeply. Helen enjoyed gardening, birdwatching, traveling with her husband Ned, book club, and visiting with her children and grandchildren. She and her sister, Joyce, volunteered at St. Francis hospital together and organized and worked the blood drives at First United Methodist church in Skiatook. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church of Owasso.

The family would like to thank St. Francis hospice and Dr. Ross’ and Dr. Coman’s office and staff for their continuous care and support for her.

A memorial service is scheduled for Friday, December 23rd at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church of Owasso.

A graveside ceremony will be held at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Ponca City, Oklahoma on Friday, December 30, 2016 at 2:00 p.m.
