Richard S. Dale
Richard Seward Dale of Ponca City died Thursday, Dec. 25, 2008, at Oklahoma Heart Hospital in Oklahoma City. He was 64.
Born March 29, 1944, in Shawnee, he was the son of Richard and Maurine Dale. He attended school in Claremore at OMA and Shawnee, graduating in 1962. Richard attended college at East Central University in Ada before joining the Navy. He served on the LST USS St. Clair County during the Vietnam War and earned the Vietnam War ribbon. He was also in the National Guard.
He married Jill L. Cowan on Nov. 12, 1988, in Ponca City. They loved traveling and made memorable trips to Yellowstone, Williamsburg, Va., and Washington, D.C. and a wonderful 20th anniversary trip to New York City for sightseeing and Broadway shows.
Spending time with family and friends was one of his favorite things to do. Some close friends known as "the group" are Richard and Lynda Himbury, Wayne and Linda Kiser, Jack and Pam Rawlins, and Joquita Wallen.
Richard worked in the family business, Dale Distributing, and was also employed with OG&E at Post Road in Oklahoma City and the Sooner Power Plant in Red Rock before retiring. He had been employed the last few years at OMPA working part time as an assistant operator. As a boy, Richard was active in the Boy Scouts. He traveled to Philmont as a young Scout and got to go a second time in 1993 when he began working with Troop 28 in Ponca City. Besides scouting, he loved golf and sports.
He is survived by his wife, Jill of the home; his mother, Maurine of Shawnee; his son Brian Dale and wife Sara and granddaughter Hayley of Shawnee; his brother, Dennis and wife Judy of Albuquerque, N.M.; his nephew, Scott; niece Lorrie, and great niece Taylor. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard, and daughter, Betsy.
A service celebrating Richard's life will be held Tuesday, Dec. 30, at 11 a.m. at Woodlands Christian Church with the Rev. Paul Krueger, pastor, officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made in his name to Woodlands Christian Church, 1400 E. Hartford, Ponca City, Okla. 74604.
