September 10, 1931 - August 10, 2019

Barbara Jean Cornwell, age 87, of Newkirk, Oklahoma passed away peacefully, at home with her daughter and granddaughter by her side on August 10, 2019.

A graveside ceremony will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, August 15, 2019, at Odd Fellows Cemetery with Chaplain Justin Pickup officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory.

Barbara was born, the oldest of five children, on September 10, 1931, in Ponca City, Oklahoma to Ross and Ava (Smyth) Beattie. She graduated from Ponca City High School in 1950. She wed Gerald Cornwell on March 31, 1951, in Arkansas City, Kansas.

She enjoyed traveling with her husband, Gerald, in their motor home to the many different places that the Moose Conventions took them. She found that her in-laws were very "close-knit", but truly bonded with her sisters-in-law. Her family meant the world to her. Friends will tell you that she tried to be "laid back", but found that a chore because she had a very stubborn streak in her. Once her mind was made up, that was it! Her love for her closest girlfriends was mutually special and everlasting.

Barbara loved collecting anything with lemons and of course, her favorite dessert was lemon meringue pie. She also loved her pets, her two chihuahuas, Twister and Lucy were always by her side. Barbara and her husband, Gerald, retired from Cornwell Tag Agency in Ponca City in 2006.

She is survived by: daughter, Jeannie Rigsby and her husband Bobby of Claremore, OK; granddaughters, Heather Franklin and her husband, Blaine of Meeker, CO, Holly Rigsby of Claremore, OK; 2 great-grandchildren; Kolbi and Kaden Franklin; brothers, Ross Gary Beattie and his wife Shirley of Oak Harbor, WA, Donnie Beattie and his wife, Jerry of Bakersfield, CA; sisters, Pauline Sherbon of Ponca City, Debbie Heskett her husband, Michael.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Ross and Ava Beattie; husband, Gerald and two sons, Bruce and Michael.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of North Central Oklahoma, 445 Fairview Ave, Ponca City, OK 74601. The family would like for you to leave memories of Barbara at www.troutfuneralhome.com
