Benny Ray Cavett of Ponca City, Ok, passed away Monday July 8, 2019 at the age of 80 surrounded by his family.
Benny was born April 10, 1939 in Watchorn, Oklahoma to Ora and Geraldine Bruner Cavett. He grew up around Ponca City, Enid and Pawnee, Oklahoma. When he was just 15 years old he joined the Air National Guard and in 1956 at age 17 he joined the US Air Force. Two years later he married Lynda J. Stevens, they had 2 children and nearly 24 years together. Benny spent most of his military career on a flight crew traveling around the world, and after over 22 years of service he had held several positions including, Jet Engine Mechanic, Load Master, Flight Engineer, and Member of Red horse Civil Engineers. He also served in Vietnam where he earned the Distinguished Flying Cross. After his Air Force career, he moved back to Ponca City and began working for himself. He proudly owned and operated both Cavett Home improvements and Cavett Portable Buildings. In his younger years he was an avid racquetball player and could whip the pants off the younger guys. He loved fixing old cars, camping, fishing and other water sports. His favorite past time was bass and walleye fishing at Bull Shoals Lake in Mo and watching his favorite baseball and football teams.
In 1995 He met and married Diane Malicoate. Then after retiring a second time he moved to Protem, Mo. He was very active in his church and community, coaching little league, joining AMBUCS, serving on the Board of Directors for several groups including the YMCA, First United Methodist Church in Ponca City, Ok, and the Rocky Ledge Baptist Church in Protem, Mo.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years Sharon Diane Cavett, his children, Bryan Cavett and wife Tammy of Blackwell, Cheryl Cavett and husband JD Raulin of Ponca City, OK, three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, step-children Denise Malicoate Maxwell and husband Gary of Virginia Beach, VA, Jennifer Walker and husband Lance of Norman, OK, and Todd Malicoate and wife Lisa of Tulsa, Ok, and nine step-grandchildren.
Visitation held Thursday, July 11, 2019 at Grace Memorial Chapel of Ponca City, Oklahoma. Family will be in attendance from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. to receive friends and relatives. Services will be held 2 pm Friday, July 12, 2019 at the First United Methodist Church, Interment will follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Ponca City, Ok.
