Wayne Lee Cranford, 77, of Ponca City, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully at his home on March 11, 2026.

Wayne was born on January 3, 1949, in Ponca City, Oklahoma, to Glen and Katherine (Montgomery) Cranford. He attended Ponca City and Arkansas City schools and graduated from Ponca City High School in 1967. After high school, he continued his education at Northern Oklahoma College in Tonkawa.

Wayne began working for the City of Ponca City while still in high school in the power plant. In 1977, he began his career with OG&E at the Sooner Station, where he remained until his retirement. He also proudly served his country in the United States Army Reserve from 1969 to 1975.

Wayne enjoyed spending time working in his yard and had a special passion for his flowers. He was also a fan of classic western television shows, especially Gunsmoke. Above all, Wayne was a devoted husband and father who worked hard to provide the best life possible for his family. He was known as someone who would never hesitate to help anyone in need and never expected anything in return. Wayne also enjoyed sitting and visiting with family and friends, often talking about anything "'n stuff."

Wayne is survived by his wife, Sue Cranford; his son, Darrin Cranford and wife Suzette; his grandchildren, Britny Cranford, Drew Cranford and wife Sabrina, Makaly Cranford, Cameron Cranford and wife Faith, Carly Cranford, and Cooper Cranford; and his great-grandson, Gunner Horne.

He was preceded in death by his son, Dustin Cranford; his parents, Glen and Katherine Cranford; his in-laws, Grover and Florence Kelly; and his sisters, Patsy Willerton, Glenda Jones, Delores Simmons, Connie Green, and Donna Newlin.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at 10 AM at Trout Funeral Home with burial to follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday, March 16, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with family present from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory, 505 W Grand Ave, Ponca City, OK 74601.The family has requested that you come dressed casually. Please feel free to wear your jeans, as Wayne will have his on like always.

If you knew Wayne, you probably heard a story, shared a laugh, and left feeling like family.
