Alvin J. Altman, longtime resident of Ponca City, died Monday, August 08, 2011 at his residence in Mountain View, AR. He was 77.
Alvin was born in Timbo, Arkansas on Nov. 2nd 1933 to Joe and Savannah Altman. At age 6, he moved with his family to Ponca City and attended Ponca City schools. Upon completion of schooling he entered the U.S. Army and served in Germany and Texas from 1954-1956. He then met and married Jerry Estelle Richardson on June 15th, 1957. To this union two sons were born; Alan Ray Altman who resides in Ponca City and Darin Jay Altman who resides in Mountain View, Arkansas. He then returned from the military service to Ponca City and was employed by Jack Bowker Ford. In 1966 he began employment with the City of Ponca City Fire Department. He retired in 1986 with reaching the rank of Captain. In 2005 he lived out his retirement in Mountain View Arkansas.
His interests included: Leather work, hiking and restoring antique cars. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Mountain View.
He is survived by his wife Jerry Estelle Altman and sons: Alan Altman and his wife Susan and Darin Altman and his wife Brenda; grandchildren: Brandon Altman and his wife Courtney, Alisha Wade and her husband Zack, Caitlyn Estelle Altman, and McKenzie Jae Altman. He also had one Great-Grandchild named Tripp.
The graveside service will be held on Thursday, August 11, 2011 at 2PM at the Odd Fellows Cemetery with Rev. Roy Edwards, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home and Crematory.
