Cherry L. Alexander, longtime resident of Ponca City, went home to join the Lords choir on Friday, March 7, 2014 at the age of 80.

She was born February 8, 1934 in Dothan, Alabama, to the late Bruce McDaniel and Ethel Peterson McDaniel. She attended the Dothan Public Schools.

She was married to Sylvester Alexander on November 2, 1960 in Dothan, Alabama. Shortly after marrying Sylvester, who was part of the U.S. Army, she traveled with him to Korea, Germany, Louisiana and Texas. After Sylvester retired from the Army, they made their home in Ponca City in 1966. To this union the couple raised two children, Earnest Alexander and Sharnice Alexander.

During her time in Ponca City, Cherry worked for the Bowkers a short time and also did housekeeping and cooking for the late Forrest Miles. She also worked at Shawn Manor Nursing Home for numerous years. She was a member of the Reach Out for Jesus Church of God in Christ. Cherry enjoyed fishing, cooking, her ministries with the church, and her beloved dogs, Rambo and Rusty.

She is survived by her husband, Sylvester, of the home two children, Earnest Alexander and wife Pam, and Sharnice Alexander and husband Russ, all of Ponca City grandchildren, Earnest and Danielle Alexander, Zareck, Analia, Mylia, Hassan, Kamdynn, Peyton, Tatum, Cole, Michael Alexander and Kevin Alexander 7 great grandchildren nieces Patricia McCree, Mary Madison, both of Ponca City, Loretta Tucker of Saginaw, Michigan and Laveda Tucker of Arizona nephews Arthur Johnson, Willie Johnson, both of Birmingham, Alabama and David McDaniel of Texas also a host of great great grandchildren, great great nieces and nephews, as well as friends and honorary kids and grandkids.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bruce and Ethel McDaniel one daughter, Patricia Smith one granddaughter, Michelle Alexander 5 sisters, Ruth Johnson, Ruby Mathis, Versie Tucker, Vissie L. King and Lillie M. Lee 2 brothers, Willie D. McDaniel and Leamon Lee McDaniel.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 14, 2014 at Grace Memorial Chapel with Rev. Tim Johnson, pastor of the Johnson Temple Church of God in Christ presiding. Interment will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel.
