Loretta Joan Tate Willoughby, age 90, long time resident of Ponca City, Oklahoma, passed away Saturday, March 10, 2018 in Ponca City.
Friends and loved ones may pay their respects at the funeral home from 5-8pm Wednesday, March 14, and 8am-8pm Thursday March 15. A rosary will be held in the Chapel at Trout Funeral Home at 6pm on Thursday, March 15, 2018. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 16, 2018 at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Carson Krittenbrink officiating. Following the Mass, she will be laid to rest at the Newkirk Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory.
Loretta was born on January 4, 1928 to Elmer Roy Tate and Irene Louise Weber Tate in Ponca City. She was raised in Newkirk and graduated from Newkirk High School in 1946. Following high school, she went to work for Continental Oil Company, commuting daily by train from Newkirk to Ponca City. When Loretta married and moved to Ponca City she quit work to raise her children. After her children were grown, she returned to work at Conoco before retiring in 1993.
Loretta was a life long member of St Mary's parish in Ponca City. She was an independent woman of traditional values and concerns. The manners and values she was taught as a child continued with her through her life.
Throughout her life Loretta was an avid photographer and won several awards for her creations. She also sang with several groups in the area. After retirement, Loretta frequently traveled for enjoyment.
Survivors include her children: Bill Willoughby of Ponca City, Joan Willoughby of Grapevine, TX, James Willoughby and wife Paula of Benbrook, TX, and Catherine Willoughby of Bellingham, WA, grandchildren: Tiegan Willoughby, Dana Willoughby, Jamie Willoughby, and Conner Willoughby.
Loretta was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Eugene Tate.
