Lanio Roberts passed away on Tuesday, October 11, 2016 in Newkirk at the age of 76. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 14, 2016 at 2:00 pm at First United Methodist Church in Newkirk with Chaplain Mike Sweetman officiating. Burial will follow at Newkirk Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory.

Lanio was born on March 8, 1940 to Cecil Henry Roberts and Evelyn Simpson Roberts in Mangum, Oklahoma. He was raised in and attended school in Granite, OK. He married his wife Jeanie Stephens in Altus, OK on December 24, 1958. Served in the United States Army for several years. Worked as a manager of United Supermarkets in Oklahoma for 14 years. He opened the Best Yet Supermarket in Ponca City as manager in 1972. He also had a career with Rainbow Bread Co. He then purchased the Dairy Queen in Newkirk and operated it for 10 years, employing many local high school students.

He served as Mayor of Newkirk from 1982-1985. He finished his career as a New Car Salesman for Bowker Ford in Ponca City for 16 years. He was very active with the Masonic Lodge No. 88 of Newkirk, helping to start a scholarship fund within the Masonic Charity Foundation. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite, the Kay County Shrine Club, and Knights of Templar. He helped sponsor and travel with the "Stepp-Up'" Program Kids of Newkirk. He enjoyed spending winters in South Texas with all of his friends at Fig Tree RV Park in Harlingen, TX. Lanio was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Cindi Roberts Wathor.

He is survived by his wife, Jean Roberts, of Newkirk, OK. Daughters, Crystal Douglas, and Jaquetta (Jackie) Emert. Grandsons, Shannon Wathor, wife Jessie; Corbi Wathor, wife Desiree; Steven Bradley, wife Kristi; Mitchell Douglas, Reece Douglas, Kyle Bradley. Granddaughters, Candice Overbey, Jessica (Sassy) Wathor, Emily Douglas, and ten great-grandchildren. Brother, Augdon Roberts, wife Fariba of Santa Monica, CA. Sisters, Jane Crabtree of Choctaw, OK, Jean Lopez, husband Lionel of Thousand Oaks, CA. Sister-in-law, Debbie Westbrook of Sophia, NC, and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial funds may be made to Masonic Charity Foundation and Hospice of North Central Oklahoma.
