The funeral for Pauline Mae Goulden, 97, of Newkirk, will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Christian Church, Newkirk. The Revs. James Hollifield and Kerney Graham Jr. will officiate. Arrangements are by Miller-Stahl Funeral Service, Newkirk. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m.

She was born Sept. 18, 1910, near Blackwell to Nathaniel “Nate” and Anna Rosetta Suman Shupe and died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2008, at the Newkirk Nursing Center.

She grew up and attended school in the Braman community, graduating from Braman High School in 1928. She continued her education with numerous short courses on nutrition at Oklahoma State University.


She married Leslie H. Goulden Aug. 8, 1935, in Wellington, Kan. They made their first home in Braman, moving to Newkirk in 1938. Ten years later, they purchased the Cantwell farm southeast of Newkirk. He died April 9, 1982. She moved into Newkirk in 1984. She lived in the Consolidated 106 community, where she worked for the 106 School District as lunchroom manager and cook. She served as 4-H leader for 21 years, served as superintendent of the Consolidated 106 Community Sunday school for more than 20 years, and had been a member of the Oklahoma Cowbells. She also was a member of First United Methodist Church of Newkirk and United Methodist Women.


Surviving are two daughters, Beatrice Paul of Enid and Arlene Sellers of Duncan; one brother, Ralph Shupe of Arkansas City; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Leslie, she was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters.


Memorials may be made through Eastman National Bank, Box 468, Newkirk, OK 74647-0468 to First United Methodist Church of Newkirk to help with rebuilding.
