Mildred Virginia Gamble, June 4, 1927 – September 23, 2018. Mildred was the oldest of three children born in Red Rock, OK, to Harry W. Brown, AKA William Grant, and Faye Talbert Brown. Her mother was Cherokee Indian, and her father was a full-blood Otoe Indian. In 1937 when Mildred was 10 years old, her mother died and her father remarried. Aunt Hazel McMullan of Tulsa, OK, became the legal guardian of Mildred and her sister Delores “Dee”. Mildred also shared her summers with Aunt Thelma Hudson, in Red Rock, OK.

On Dec. 29, 1945, Mildred married Albert E. Gamble in Aston, PA, and they had two sons, Donald and Lawrence. In 1987, Mildred and Albert retired and returned to Newkirk, OK, until Albert’s death in 1990. Mildred then married Charles Owen "Chap" Tillman of Stillwater, OK, in 1995.

Mildred was most proud of the time she spent serving, 6 years as Chairman of the Otoe Election Board, Chairman of the Otoe Gaming Commission, 5 years as Chief Judge of the Otoe Tribal Court and Chairman of the Otoe War Mothers. She also volunteered for Hospice of North Central OK, RSVP Seniors, CASA, and was a member of the Citizens of Police Academy. Mildred loved to read and travel.

Mildred was predeceased by her parents, aunts, both husbands, baby brother John Donald, and son Donald B. Gamble.

She is survived by son, Lawrence A. Gamble, daughter-in-law, Sharon P. Gamble, DE, daughter-in-law Barbara Gamble, Alva, OK, sister Dee Louks OR, grandchildren Sharon A., Donald Jr., Donna, Carol, and Kimberly, 10 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, a special nephew, Ted Grant of Red Rock, OK.

At Mildred’s request, traditional Indian services will not be held.

Graveside services will be held Friday, October 5, 2018, at 2:00 pm at Newkirk Cemetery, Newkirk, OK.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Humanity Hospice, or the charity of your choice.
