Newkirk – Mrs. Bernice Gramlich Ackley, 87, died Saturday at her home in Newkirk after a long illness.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 AM Tuesday in the Stahl Funeral Chapel at Newkirk with the Rev. Gary Richardson officiating. Burial will be in the Newkirk Cemetery.

Mrs. Ackley was born June 23, 1894, near Good Hope, Ohio, to Justin and Viola Free. She was orphaned at the age of seven and lived with different relatives until moving to Reeding. In 1915, she married John W. Gramlich at Kingfisher where they established their home and owned and operated a grocery store. They later lived at Dover and Hennessey. He died in 1943, and she moved to Enid where she worked as a seamstress for several years.

In 1963 she returned to Ohio and married William Ackley. They resided in Frankfort, Ohio. After his death in 1972, she moved to Newkirk.

Mrs. Ackley was a member of the First Baptist Church at Newkirk and taught Sunday school classes there. In Enid, she was a member of the First Baptist Church where she also taught Sunday school classes.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Forest Newell, Parsons, Kansas, and Mrs. Bill Stahl, Newkirk; one sister, Mrs. Percie Crago, Frankfort, Ohio; five grandchildren; and six great – grandchildren.
