John Edward Mefford
April 5, 1941 - July 24, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John "JE" Edward Mefford Sr., a beloved son, brother, father, grandfather, and friend, who left this world on July 24, 2025, at the age of 84. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory, 505 W Grand Ave, Ponca City, OK 74601. A graveside memorial service will take place at Newkirk Cemetery in Newkirk, Oklahoma on August 1, 2025 at 10:00AM.

Born on April 5, 1941, in Ponca City, Oklahoma, to George Mefford Sr. and Inez (Auld) Mefford, "JE" lived a life rich in love, laughter, and a profound appreciation for the great outdoors.

"JE" was a man of many talents and interests. He graduated from Newkirk High School in 1959 and went on to Northern Oklahoma College, where he was recognized as an All-American football player. His athletic talent was a testament to his dedication and passion, qualities that he carried with him throughout his life. After college, he worked diligently at the Zinc Smelter in Blackwell, followed by a career at Cessna, while retiring from Kay County, where he became known for his outstanding work ethic and commitment to excellence.

Outside of his professional life, "JE" was a true jack-of-all-trades, possessing a wide array of skills. An extreme outdoorsman, he was an avid hunter and fisherman, and fishing was not merely a hobby but a way of life for him. He found solace and joy in nature, often sharing those precious moments with family and friends who will always remember the laughter and stories shared about his adventures in the deer woods.

He is survived by his loving family, including his daughter Debbie and her husband Jeff Killian of Ada, OK; his son John Jr. and his wife Kelly Mefford of Newkirk, OK; daughter Denise and her husband John Strickland of Bartlesville, OK; brother George Jr. and his wife Rhonda Mefford of Owasso, OK; and sister Kay Dunaway of Kingsville, TX. He was a cherished grandfather to six grandchildren and a proud great-grandfather to ten great-grandchildren, all of whom he adored fiercely.

"JE" was preceded in death by his parents, George Mefford Sr. and Inez (Auld) Mefford.

Rest in peace, "JE". You will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
