September 26, 1888 - December 9, 1957

Floyd Summers, 69, a resident of this community since the opening of the Cherokee Strip to settlement, died suddenly and unexpectedly Monday evening at his home east of Ponca City.

A farmer, Summers was born September 26, 1883 at Dunkerton, Iowa. At an early age he moved with his parents to a farm west of Arkansas City, from where they made the run at the opening of the Strip. His parents staked their claims on the farm where Summers continued to reside until his death.

He was married March 17, 1909 in Ponca City to Della Reeves. He was a member of the Modern Woodmen of America.

Survivors include his wife of the home; two sisters, Mrs. Mack Gardner, Bartlesville and Mrs. Ethel Mitchell, Lawton; two brothers, Howard of 212 N. Eighth and Clarence E. of 1029 N. First; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 2 PM Thursday in the Chapel of the E. M. Trout and Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Arthur Young, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Longwood Cemetery.
